Plate waste tracking in Uppsala
The school Västra stenhagenskolan in Uppsala (Sweden) is testing the plate waste tracker at its canteen. It is one of the technological innovations selected by LOWINFOOD and developed by Matomatic, consisting of a smart scale that measures the amount of food students are wasting at mealtime. In the meantime, it communicates the impact of food waste on the environment and the economy.
Since it had been installed at the beginning of September, it has successfully been running in this school and, according to the staff, it is helpful for them in monitoring the plate waste levels. Furthermore, having this information allows pupils to provide feedback to the canteen staff on why they wasted food.
