LOWINFOOD’s standard protocol to assess the economic impact of innovations against food waste

30 September 2024 By

On 25 September 2024, LOWINFOOD partner Nazli Koseoglu (The James Hutton Institute) presented at the Retaste Conference a protocol to assess the economic performance of innovations. It consists of a list of indicators that has been reviewed in multiple iterations between researchers, innovation providers, and prospective demonstrators to identify the most significant indicators for the specificities of different innovations and the test locations. Since not all the performance indicators would be relevant to any innovation, protocol users aiming to use this protocol may select those that are more appropriate for the innovation being assessed.

Nazli explained that the application of the protocol during its development in LOWINFOOD provided valuable insights in terms of identifying essential and secondary indicators depending on the innovation type and understanding how the corresponding survey questionnaires could be refined for future applications.
