Four LOWINFOOD professors at a summer school about designing sustainable food systems
From 26 June to 6 July 2023, the Centro Studi Alpino di Pieve Tesino (Italy) hosted the DS-FOOD international summer school “Design of sustainable food systems”, where four professors from the LOWINFOOD team gave classes and offered lessons to the 30 students attending the camp. Although the summer camp was not part of the project, “it was a great opportunity to meet and spend some time together talking about the sustainability of food chains”, stated Clara Cicatiello, the coordinator of LOWINFOOD and one of the teachers at the summer camp. Together with Cicatiello, Christina Strotmann (ISUN), Mattias Eriksson (SLU) and Luca Secondi (UNITO) offered classes in this summer school.
30 students from 9 nationalities took part in this unique educational experience, consisting of an 11-day summer camp with plenty of activities including 2 field visits, one in a typical malga (cheese production facility and farm located up the mountain), and another one at wine cellars, indoor and outdoor lectures, etc. The objective of the summer school was to provide participants with a theoretical overview and a basic toolbox to design and assess sustainability in agri-food systems, in an international environment.
