As a comprehensive research university, the University of Bologna invests in the multidisciplinary cross-cultural approach and in the inseparable connection between research and teaching. One of the most active universities leading and participating in European research and academic cooperation projects, Alma Mater Studiorum — Università di Bologna has formed knowledge alliances with industries and public/private organizations and is a hub of international networks. In Horizon 2020, Alma Mater Studiorum — Università di Bologna is so far involved in 244 funded projects (61 as coordinator) with more than 100 M€ of funding. It is also partner of the EIT Knowledge & Innovation Communities and many of the most important EU initiatives related to the Horizon 2020 framework program (i.e. ETPs, EIPs, JPIs, etc.).
Role in LOWINFOOD: Alma Mater Studiorum — Università di Bologna is leader of WP2 “Innovations against loss of FRUITS & VEGETABLES”. Within this work package, UNIBO is leading the task 2.1. It also leads task 1.2 concerning the evaluation of the efficacy of the innovations in the prevention and reduction of food waste, and contributes to task 1.3 about the socio-economic evaluation of innovations. In WP6, UNIBO leads task 6.5 focusing on the establishment of links and connections with other national and international projects and participates to the other tasks involving all partners.
