SUMMARY:Collaborative and circular food systems to reduce pollution and improve health
DESCRIPTION:On 27 May 2021\, during the Green Week\, a key action of the European Green Deal scheduled for spring 2021\, the 5 European sister projects working in synergies (LOWINFOOD\, FOODRUS\, CO-FRESH\, FAIRCHAIN\, PLOUTOS) and an expert panel will address issues related to the sustainability of food systems at the local and regional level. Clara Cicatiello\, our coordinator\, will be representing LOWINFOOD in this event. \nCollaborative and circular food systems can significantly reduce pollution of the environment\, in particular by addressing food waste along the agri-food value chain\, and can at the same time improve the health of consumers and increase the resilience of local economies and communities. \nDiscover the full agenda \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Cooperation Workshop: “Designing Co-creation activities for innovation in Food Value Chains”
DESCRIPTION:On 9 June 2021\, the 5 sister projects working in cooperation (LOWINFOOD\, FOODRUS\, CO-FRESH\, FAIRCHAIN\, PLOUTOS) are celebrating an online workshop\, with the aim of sharing approaches and methodologies deployed in each project to design co-creation activities for the specific purposes of each project\, exchanging experiences\, get project experts in touch and\, if possible\, to open room for collaboration between the projects. \nLOWINFOOD partners Elisa Carloni and Nicola Gianluca Di Fiore\, both from the University of Bologna\, are presenting the Delphi approach and the Webinar Series as part of the co-creation methodology that is being followed in the project.

SUMMARY:“Design of sustainable food systems" Summer School
DESCRIPTION:Three LOWINFOOD partners\, the University of Tuscia (Italy)\, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Sweden) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria) have organised a summer school on “Design of sustainable food systems”. It arises from the growing attention that the issue of sustainability of food systems is gaining at the international level. \nThese three institutions have come together to provide Bachelor and Master’s students with an opportunity to acquire an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical issues related to the sustainability of food systems. Major thematic topics reflect the four-pillar approach of the Farm-to-Fork EU strategy\, thus combining sustainability of production\, food processing and distribution\, sustainable consumption styles and prevention of food waste. \nThe summer school will be held at the UNITUS Alpine Studies Centre\, located in the small village of Pieve Tesino\, in the mountains of Trentino\, Italy\, during the first two weeks of July 2021. \nThey already have 19 confirmed international participants (selected among 35 applicants)\, who come from 4 different EU countries (Italy\, Austria\, Germany and Denmark) and they represent 9 different nationalities.

SUMMARY:179th EAAE (European Association of Agricultural Economists) seminar
DESCRIPTION:The 179th EAAE (European Association of Agricultural Economists) seminar’s objectives are to bring together scholars and researchers that will exchange ideas\, practices and research initiatives that cover all relevant current modelling developments for assisting policy-making decisions in agriculture and the agri-food industry in response to the urgent issues of the global economy and the subsequent prevailing societal and environmental conditions. \nLOWINFOOD partners Gianluca Di Fiore and Elisa Carloni\, from the University of Bologna\, are going to present a work that analyses the contexts in which the innovation on CAP Food Surplus withdrawals from Emilia-Romagna Region can be potentially implemented. It is an institutional innovation implemented in Italy\, namely a software linking the agricultural sector with charities in the Emilia-Romagna Region (EER) since 2012 and currently managing food donations all over Italy.

SUMMARY:Sardinia Symposium 2021
DESCRIPTION:The next edition of Sardinia Symposium\, organised by IWWG – International Waste Working Group\, will be held from 11th to 15th October 2021 at the Forte Village Resort on the south coast of Sardinia\, Italy. Organisers are building a hybrid event that will enrich the physical conference with the benefits of virtual events. \nThe scientific program of the symposium includes a workshop about the evaluation of innovations against food waste: efficacy\, socio-economic\, and environmental aspects\, organised by many LOWINFOOD partners: S. Scherhaufer (BOKU-University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna\, AT)\, C. Cicatiello (University of Tuscia\, IT)\, C. Giordano (University of Bologna\, IT)\, N. Koseoglu (The James Hutton Institute\, UK)\, L. Falasconi (University of Bologna\, IT)\, S. Piras (The James Hutton Institute\, UK)\, K. Lasaridi (Harokopio University\, GR)\, C. SUMMARY:Webinar on food waste reduction at schools
DESCRIPTION:LOWINFOOD partner Austrian Institute of Ecology (Österreichisches Ökologie-Institut) has been invited to present our project approach and activities in the field of out-of-home-consumption\, in line with a webinar for schools. \nMaria Kalleitner-Huber will introduce new ways of reducing serving and plate waste at schools. She will present a recently accomplished pilot project on food redistribution and our LOWINFOOD innovations of combining a holistic educational concept with the demonstration of the so-called Plate Waste Tracker. \nView the full program (in German)

SUMMARY:Online workshop “Innovation dynamics in agri-food value chains”
DESCRIPTION:The LOWINFOOD project is celebrating an online workshop entitled “Innovation dynamics in agri-food value chains”. \nThe workshop aims to share knowledge about innovation practices in food value chains. We will talk about the factors that influence the diffusion of innovations and we will discuss the benefits and challenges of a set of practices/solutions that are being implemented in different contexts. \nThe workshop includes valuable contributions from Stefano Pascucci (University of Exeter) and Inge Van Oost (European Commission representative in the SCAR-AKIS group). It is addressed to interested stakeholders\, including partners of RUR-06/07-2020 calls and SCAR-AKIS group. \n
